New training cards provide CDC-recommended steps for fighting the spread of COVID-19

Researchers at the University of Central Florida have developed educational training cards about COVID-19 and ways to stay safe from the disease. The deck of 52 cards provides key information including how the disease spreads and CDC-recommended instructions for preventing and transmitting the disease (such as social distancing, hand washing and wearing a mask). The cards can also provide instructions about the proper care and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Together, the cards encourage users to accurately select the most appropriate preventative measures, recall and apply individual steps in sequential order, increase dexterity and recall speed under simulated stress. They also offer ways to cooperate with others in a team environment and to comprehend and follow verbal instructions from teammates.

Technical Details

Card text is sourced from at least the following sources as listed/cited on the cards: US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UCF, and CNBC (in order of percentage of use). The flexible game framework allows for expansion and rapid changes to serve new audiences and reflect new procedures, treatments and unique situations.
